P07 logoBiOD is an independent High Tech SME recently created from the UPM start-ups programme of UPM. Its relevant expertise is in the development of IVD multiplexed biosensing systems. Its purpose is the development and commercialization of High-quality IVD label-free biosensing by means of advanced readout optical PoC platforms for a number of applications. A first Point-of-Care device prototype has been already implemented for ophthalmologic applications and it is expected to be available in the market soon. BIOD collaborates with several industrial Partners such as LASING S.A. and Bioftalmik S.L in Spain.

BiOD has been recognized as one of the most innovative initiatives from the UPM programme for start-ups, the Genoma Foundation among other national initiatives. It was also part of the ProNano European Project (Promoting Technology Transfer of Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and new Production Technologies) and recognized as one of the most innovative ideas coming from the basic-research for reaching out the market.

Main tasks and the previous experience relevant to those tasks.

BIOD is participating in the optical reader device where the previous experience for developing a PoC is considered to be a key point within this proposal. It collaborates with Multitel and Lionix for defining the optical and fluidic components, the interrogation alternatives and software applications. Specific interest will be the user-interface of the PoC. Finally, the implementation, the hardware component and the fluidics integration is something where BIOD role will be relevant. Furthermore, BIOD as an experience for transferring the basic research to a real market will play an essential role in the project. BIOD has already developed several reports about the market size and competitors for PoC devices in a broad range of applications. This experience will be also essential to find out the path of the technology of EnviGuard commercialization. It is important to remark that BIOD is coming from the research group of the UPM participating in this proposal, but BIOD is an administrative independent organization of the UPM. The experience in commercializing the PoC implemented for BIOD can be of a great expertise for conducting this project. Furthermore, BIOD will take advantage for the joint developments within EnviGuard and be a path for the future commercialization of the development within this project.
